Do you have some queries about oral implants?
At the Hilton Dental Clinic, our team has been fitting dental implants Nottingham for years and knows all there is to know about these nifty restoratives.
Here, we answer common questions that we receive about dental implants Nottingham.
Do oral implants hurt when they are fitted?
Many patients have heard or read horror stories relating to the fitting of dental implants Nottingham and assume that the process is wrought with discomfort.
However, we can assure you that it isn’t!
Before we fit the implant(s), we will numb the gums and jaw, so when we are fitting the implant, you wonât feel a thing. If you are a nervous patient, we may also be able to offer you sedation.
Am I suitable for them?
As long as you are over the age of 18 years, have good oral health and are in good general health, then it is highly likely that you will be suitable for oral implants.
In order to fully assess your suitability, our team will need to perform X-rays of your jaw(s) to determine if you have enough bone to support the implants. But, if all is well with your bone density, we can begin planning for the fitting!
Can I have my denture secured with them?
Yes, you can!
Although if we are attempting to secure dentures with implants, we will typically fit more than 1; depending on the amount of jawbone you have in certain areas of the mouth, you may be able to have 4 implants fitted on the lower jaw and 4 on the upper, which will act as very secure anchors for your dentures. We can also fit bridges using a similar method,
How long will they last?
Implants are very sturdy and, with correct aftercare, can last up to and over 15 years with ease.
Bear in mind that in order for them to last this long, you will need to brush them as you would your regular teeth, floss around them, rinse them with mouthwash and of course, attend dental check-ups with our team.
Your lifestyle choices will also impact how long the implants last; if you smoke or drink excessive amounts of alcohol, this can shorten the lifespan of the implants. If you have underlying health conditions such as osteoporosis, this can also shorten how long the implants are fused to your jaw. So, ask our team for more information relating to suitability.
Can I afford them?
It is one of the most common concerns that our patients have about getting oral implants fitted; are they affordable?
And the answer is yes! When you come to our team at Hilton Dental Clinic, we may be able to offer you financing options, which will help you to spread the cost into affordable monthly repayments.
If you are still unsure whether implants are worth the money, consider that leaving a gap in your mouth can attract plaque, which can lead to a higher incidence of decay and gum disease. Also, missing teeth can cause the surrounding teeth to become misaligned, meaning that you may require the use of a brace. So, implants are well worth the associated costs!
